An Icnos Wireless Leased Line is akin to a Fibre-Based Leased Line but delivered using wireless technology rather than by a physical cable connection.
Icnos is normally used by organisations who need guaranteed connectivity that comes backed with an SLA (Service Level Agreement). Typical usage includes high bandwidth internet connectivity, sharing large volumes of data and/or multiple site-to-site connections (MPLS).
This service is uncontended (not shared) with symmetrical upload and download speeds, and comes fully managed.
This product, only available in Sheffield, has been designed using the latest radio, millimetre and microwave technology. It doesn’t use traditional copper or fibre to deliver service, and unlike other Leased Line and Broadband services, it has zero reliance on BT infrastructure.
At its core, Icnos is provided from a Sheffield datacentre where we have diverse fibre connections into London and Manchester, ensuring that there’s no single point of failure. This means our customers are not affected by physical issues, such as fibre or telephone line faults, or even if the local BT telephone exchange goes down. You’re guaranteed continuity of service that no other provider can offer.
Bad weather? No problem! A major advantage of the Icnos network is the number and close-proximity of the transmission sites as well as the technology used. The network infrastructure has been designed on the premise that no client will be more than two miles away from a transmission hub, but most of our customers are much closer than this.
We work closely with equipment manufacturers to ensure our service is available in even the most extreme weather. This has been tested over several years and ensures that the potential effect of any atmospheric influences are fully minimised; as a result we can offer up to a 99.99% uptime SLA (Service Level Agreement).
The key benefits of Icnos are:
• No reliance on any 3rd party infrastructure as a single point of failure.
• Installation in days not months.
• 4 working hour response SLA.
• Very low installation charges*.
• Unlimited data transfer.
* Often zero cost if contracted to a 3 year term.
Upload & Download speed start from 10Mbps and increase to 2Gbps, dependant on your requirements.
Organisations are increasingly choosing an Icnos Wireless Leased Line due to its performance, reliability, and the fact the cost is often lower than perceived.
Who uses Icnos Wireless Leased Lines?
To name but a few:
What about latency?
Latency is a measure of delay and refers to the length of time it takes for data fed into one end of a network to emerge at the other end (measured in the round-trip time). Therefore, the more ‘hops’ the data has to pass through on this journey, the higher the latency.
Latency is also higher for networks such as 3G and 4G and satellite. It’s also higher when measured via an internal network. So, to assume latency would be higher through Wi-Fi is probably correct, however, we don’t deliver the service by Wi-Fi; instead it’s delivered wirelessly (fixed access wireless), using carrier class equipment, which is very different!
The Icnos network is built on the basis that the vast majority of the link distances are very short, and as there’re so many points of presence there are very few of them from you, the end user, back to the network operations centre.
The latency on our circuits is therefore usually exceptionally low at sub 10ms, which you’d typically expect from a modern fixed-wired Ethernet circuit (i.e Fibre-Based Leased Line).
As a comparison, typical, approximate, values for latency that you might experience include:
